Drawing a blank on the sailing term for the rubber jib "cleat" on my C20. Thinking about replacing them...they're brittle and let the jib sheet slip in a good breeze. Any ideas on a good place to get them?

They are either jam cleats or cam cleats. Defender.com has good parts

.... or clam cleats .... and yes, they're kinda cheapo! I've got em on both boats for the jibs.. for now. My Widgeon had cam cleats. They hold much better, but the set and release is more deliberate. Cam cleats will not let go unless you release 'em. They honestly haven't been a prob on my C-20 yet, the winches take up most of the pressure.

They're about $25 a pop vs $4

If you don't want to wait you can also pick them up at West Marine.

He's in Des Moines . . . No WM for several hundred miles. Defender may be the best option.

My rudder assembly for my '70's era Buccaneer came apart. Anyone have a lead on a replacement?

A heads up . . . Odds are you won't find a perfect match. Dimensions have changed slightly since our boats were built. West Marine has a great catalog. Try to get one. Defenders catalog is not as good but their website is better. Good luck!

Good to know...maybe I'll be caulking and redrilling. If I have to do that anyway, should I stick with the clam cleat or go to a cam cleat?

If it were my boat . . . Cams. I hate clams. When I strip all the hardware for painting almost all of my clams will be trashed. I love the ease and security of cams.
