Kinda a pain getting it set up or watching it today, some 20,000 on line earlier so I imagine the server is getting stressed.
Great race video and the way the boats are set up for streaming video will be a nice winter past time once things settle down a bit!

Wow,
They have 2 boats busted already...
I ran aground while sleeping last night and 26,000 boats passed me by!
My boat name is Jokhaulup1,,, havent found any info on how to play the game so good luck with that part. Can't even get on this morning and after getting my boat going at 0300 when I got up to stoke the fire at home I was heading to the sttaits of gibraltar at 20 kts... Could be grounded again by the I can log in again... What fun...

My boat is called the Finestkind. I can't quite figure out the game except there are 4000 boats ahead of me. On that note anybody know of a good iPad/phone sailing game? This getting dark at 5:30 sucks.

So it looks like we now have four boats in the Volvo Ocean Race Game:
KalipsoKai I (red boat)-me, taking up the rear guard at overall rank 47000+--a late start (somehow started off the coast of Lybia and went aground overnight off Spain).
Finestkind I (blue boat)-- about halfway between me and the first gate at the Gilbraltar.
GS Lollipop I (yellow boat)--soon, if not now, crossing the first gate
and
Jokhaulup I (light blue boat)--out in the Pacific, well out into the main body of racers--overall rank @7800.
I have listed you all as followers, but sometimes by racing console doesn't show anyone in my list. I understand there are still a lot of glitches in the software.
Anyone know the difference between the overall rank and the leg 1 rank? You'd think they'd be the same until leg 1 was over.
And, what does it mean to buy (spend $$) on sails, waypoints or on crew energy? Are those real dollars? If not, what do you give up?
Maybe I'll just sail like I do here, with the jib, mostly single handling as if in my flatwater lake. The tortoise strategy.

Well I can't seem to find anyone so far when I search but looks like I may have had the names wrong.
When you sign up late it starts you off at the back somewhere but not neccesarily at the start.
You can "buy" better sails, auto sail changes, candy bars to keep your crew healthy and stuff, and its cheap. For $10 or $12 you get like $2000 worth of play money for that leg only.
On the upper right part of the screen are two arrows that let you see forecast wind conditions 12, 24, 36 hours etc using actual Grib forecasts. Just dont forget to.take it back to "0"
Still havent found any instructions anywhere....

Finally figured out how to follow you guys. Also, I'm in 20038th place and don't know what I'm doing or where I'm going. Same thing happens when I race with the Creekfleet. I know one thing for sure, I'm not buying any new sails or other stuff...too cheap! (again...just like in real life - LMAO)

Volvo Ocean Race Game--Day 4 status.

You can still register and play--
http://www.volvooceanracegame.org/ . It doesn't start you out at the beginning. They put you in kind of the middle of the back half of the pack.* There will be a spectator mode soon.
UPDATE:
KalipsoKai I (red boat)-I've been able to spend some time on this with the rain coming down outside, so I've made some progress--up to leg rank no 27941 a bit NE of Madiera Island. It's kind of addictive. But I'm done exploring with it for a while. So I'll only be able to change course a couple of times a day until the weekend. I was able to put the app on my android phone, so I can make changes remotely, but it is harder to see and figure out.
Finestkind I (blue boat) and
GS Lollipop I (yellow boat) obviously haven't spent as much time fooling with the darn thing--they are back at 55,000+ but well out of Gilbralter, beyond same longitude as the western Spanish coastline up to the north. As long as you don't run aground or point directly into your local wind, you can ignore the boat for a time and still make some progress.
and
Jokhaulup I (light blue boat)--equipped with some additional sails which keeps him out with a good portion of the fleet closer to the African coastline, the southern traditional "trade route"--at rank @7500. (I still don't know the difference between leg rank and overall rank.) Looks like he's headed for the eastern Canary Islands. The leaders have taken off this same route and are already down by those Islands.
*For example, I added a second boat today (KalipsoKai II). I did that because I could decide which way to go. Now, I can go both a west and a south routh. It showed up at about about 20,000 ranks below and 50-100 nautical miles away. It has had better wind, so it is now less than 30 nm away from the first boat. I did that I can take both a westerly and an easterly route. However, I decided not to buy extra sails on this leg for either boat.
I am following the real race as well and I am looking forward to how the Abu Dabai group does as they resume their race here shortly now that the mast is repaired.

AHHH!
Getting close to finishing the first leg of the VOR!
The real boats have all finished, well 3 out of the 6 that didn't have devastating failures anyway. My favorite, PUMA, broke there mast last week and wait to be rescued on the tiny island of Tristan, the most remote island in the Atlantic... bummer!!
For the Chrysler racers, well it's gettin down to the wire! With just under 700 miles to go
Dennyzen's three boats are all around me!!! I'm thinkin her #3 boat could get some last day winds to blow in ahead and seal the deal

Her #1 boat and I are payin the price for the last 2 weeks decisions and it's gonna be close! Her #2 boat I'm thinkin isn't gonna be a threat!
GS Lollipop boats are further back but having a nice day sailing in the south atlantic.
But, it appears the
Finestkind boat had run aground and must have been stuck hard! Despite having the light spinnaker still flying she hasn't moved in weeks!
Well as I sit here waiting for UPS to deliver a package,,, I deciced to edit in this pic of where were at...
660 to go VOR by
bhacurly, on Flickr
In the red line, red boat at the top is Dennyzen's # 2 boat, then lower me in light blue/white line... then her #1 boat, red w/ red line, and lower her #3 boat, red w/ red line... the wind barbs are the current winds...
If any of you racers have any tips for me to beat Dennyzen to the line, feel free to pm me

My suggestion: Go faster!
Oops, that was supposed to be a PM, sorry for letting the secret out!
