Hello! A couple of weeks ago I put money down on a Man-O-War and today he is bringing it to my door. I look forward to many great outings and to some feedback from this group as I learn more about both my boat and sailing her.

Thanks a lot for the welcome! I live in Foster City, CA and we have several calm, wide canals and ponds within 3 minutes drive of my house, so I plan to explore as many as I can.

If the family enjoys sailing as much as I do, I will look for something to sail on San Francisco Bay. Is there any chance at all of sailing the Man-O-War on larger bodies of water? Like the Bay on a good day? It was a racing class, if I understand correctly, and I would imagine that if the chop was not horrible it would do fine, but I don't want to experiment and find out I am wrong. Wise advice is always welcome.

I am buying this through a man I met on Craigslist who has been fixing it up. Seems to be in good shape and he and I have been consulting on what makes sense (new tackles, a new kick-up rudder, that sort of thing). He has a larger boat that he sails on the Bay and I may crew for him for a while to get my legs.

I look forward to spending a lot of time on this board!

Welcome! Check out the documents listed on this forum's main page, you'll find infor specific to your boat.

You could sail it anywhere, but always mindeful of your experience, and the weather.

Welcome aboard! Advice is always at hand here. Sounds like you'll do well crewing with him, learning the finer points first hand.

I lived about 20 miles S.E. of you while stationed near Moffett Field (I was in the "Blue Cube" at Onizuka AS near 101 and 237.

Enjoy your time on the board! Very welcoming and helpful! The only thing we ask in return is lots of pictures of what you have going on. Helps us all out and especially us guys as we're headed into the hard water season of the frozen north!

Ahoy maRaider. Welcome! You'll have a riot on the MOW. It's a fast, fun ride. ( but be prepared to get wet!). Word to the wise with introducing the wif to sailing. Wait til the weather is optimal to meet her best expectations. I scared the heck out of my wife while sailing a dingy with her on a windy day. It took me two years and a boat 2000 lbs larger to get her to try it again. Now she loves sailing, but I've learned to bring wine and cheese and to never, NEVER wash the windows with her on board
