Steaming/deck light poll

Gentlemen:

My steaming light/deck light combination was installed by the PO within a foot of the top of the mast. I do not have it wired in yet, but I would say that the deck light is not going to light up too much that high in the air. Where does everyone have theirs located? Somewhere near the spreaders?

I have a steaming light in that place on the mast. The PO installed incandescent deck lights on the spreaders that do a good job of lighting the deck at night. I doubt a deck light from the mast top would do to much good.

There was another post about LED spreader lights that looked like a really good idea to me.

This might be what you are referring to, Al:

I put spotlights on the top of the mast shining down on the fore deck and cockpit. From that height, the make about a 6-foot diameter spot. The floodlights are on the spreaders and will put out a lot of light for their size and especially their power consumption. Because they are floodlights with about a 120 degree spread, they'll light the area along side your boat for a good distance as well--like the dock you're tied up to. All of them LEDs and waterproof (can be mounted underwater, if you like), they come from Oznium.com. Great customer service!!!!:

Neither of my C22's have the deck light. However Destiny has a halogen fordeck light that works great.

Keep in mind that if you are at anchor in a quiet place there is likely very little light out there so ANY light helps! Our fordeck light is nothing during the day or at sunset however once it is dark the light is plenty to walk forward without an issue!
