Rudder Post

I could use some enlightenment.
When moving my C22 from one mooring to another 20 miles away, with the wind on the nose, The white plastic material that surrounds the top of the rudder post gradually broke apart until nothing was left on the post. About 8 semi-round plastic pcs. laying around the post.
The rudder had more play in it but didn't look as tho' it was in any danger of falling thru.
If some one could give me a clue as to what that ring is-or was- and how to go about replacing it I'd appreciate it.
Thanks BC

The round plastic ring centers the rudder post in the deck. I replaced mind with a hard plastic material I found at an industrial supply house. It will need to be replaced so as not to damage the thru hull area in the deck.
