Rudder line replacement---Help
Rudder line replacement---Help
Hi All,
Anyone replaced the rudder line (to raise and lower rudder) while the
boat is still in the water? It is a C22 and I searched for forum discussions about it but came up short. I can take it up on a trailer but would prefer to do it while it floats. Any suggestions on what line to use? Thanks.
Jeff

Drop the rudder out the bottom while the boat is in 3 or 4 feet of water. I've done it twice and once on purpose! Change your lines and then tape a 3 foot stick to them. Slide this up the rudder through Hull from under neath while a helper in the boat grabs it and pulls it up retrieving the lines. While he is slowly pulling up, insert the rudder shaft into the throughhull and secure with the locking collar above. Watch your fingers!

Wouldn't it be easier to leave the rudder post in place and unbolt the rudder at the pivot bolt? This way you don't have to align the post assy. and you could do it in even more shallow water. You would still use the stick method mentioned before. Just a thought.

you know there has to be one wise guy when tide is not full high run it on a sand bar and have some blocks for the hull and some food for lunch while waiting.
Catch the wind and ride the wave, Have fun
