new C22 owner Madison, WI-help with choosing motor

The boat looks to be in good shape, and the resources available on the web, like this one, helped me choose the C22.

It has no motor. Do I need a long shaft, it looks like the motor mount goes pretty close to the water?

Thanks in advance for any help!

The type of motor you need depends on the conditions where you are sailing.

Last season my outboard only ran on one out of two cylinders, I only had problem motoring against strong winds and waves.

I am sailing in Norway and definetly needs a extra long shaft. I have a 9.9 johnson sailmaster.

One problem with the hull is that the aft will go lower in water as you start to speed up. This calls for a long shaft.

I have raised the motor mount on my boat last year after flooding the engine due to high waves.

Mine has a 2001 Johnson 9.9 20" long shaft. I thought about a lower horsepower unit, but I am convinced that a 3000 pound boat needs the 9.9. I think that some of the lighter 22' trailerables could get away with a smaller motor, like a 5hp.

thanks for the advice
