I have two actually - 1st I place a coin under the mast base before raising the mast, supposed, to bring the boat good luck and I have two Māori tribe (New Zeland) good luck charms one for my wife and one for me they are necklaces that look like large fish hooks carved from bone, supposed to protect you when at sea. So far so good I'm still alive - LOL

I always just figured that good maintenance and keeping an eye on the
weather reports was the best way to avoid getting wrath from the sea

No-no. Rum first, then Coke, don't stir. Gets stronger as you proceed that way !

Hmmm, I always pour the rum in first, then the Coke (Zero).
We did a formal renaming ceremony for Copacetic. We found one on the internet we liked, invited some friends, and just did it. Can't be too careful plus I don't mind giving sparkling wine to Neptune. The Pusser's is all mine though.

Hey, How'd I miss this?
Dancing with the sea is a wondeful thing as long as you remember she will exploit ANY weeknesses you have. If ANYTHING is not correct with you or your boat, she will find it and slap you with it.
I don't think I have any superstitions. However I do have the very strange need to watch out for other boats. You know, see a boat in trouble, I always try and help. I've been at anchor after 10:00PM and headed out in the dinghy to help a boat that run aground. I've taken off to help a skipper dragging anchor while all other boaters just sat and watched. I given many a bottle of wine away to that boater who clearly just needed to relax. I literally drive my wife nuts because I just might head out and help someone in need out of the blue. I've made it a very special part of me to just offer help. I call it the boating bank. The more I help the more good charma I have banked.
Sooner or later I'll be in need. I'd like to think the guy who sees me will be there.
Ya just have to help each other.
I do the same when on the bike and in the car. See someone broke down, stop and help. Use common sense though! LOL!
One day a car was broke down. I stopped on the Harley and told the owner to use my cell or if he had a helmet I'd give him a ride to town. I about fell over laughing when he pulled a helmet out of his trunk! He got a ride to town.

Scott you hit it on the head and when someone I helped see's me they remember and have offered to help or buy my family a meal.
