Well,
maybe not THAT exciting . . . .

I was surfing CL this moring like I always do for any and all sailboats.
An ad read 9' wooden sailboat 200 bucks.

Curiosity got me so I emailed him. His home was within a couple of miles of my work so at 8:45 AM off I go! LOL!

I arrived to find a very cute little FIBERGLASS 8' boat fully rigged and ready to sail except it was in grass instead of water. A tad dissapointed I started looking around for the "wood" sailboat that was advertised. I rang the doorbell, the owner came out and took me directly to the glass 8'er. Yeah! I prefer GLASS!

He apologized that it was only 8' and glass, not 9' and wood. I of course said no worries and promplyt bought it!

Lucky me! I actually drove my truck today instead of the bike for other reasons and now it's full of BOAT!!! LOL!

I'll get pictures soon but for now she is NOT a Sunfish or Dagger style boat but more of an El Toro or bathtub style boat.

I added the photos here so you do not have to scroll to the bottom!

Here is the new boat!

Too funny!

I guess cuz it's smaller, it's ok and doesn't really count, and the wife isn't gonna be upset,, cuz you were just lookin, and it doesn't need a trailer, an it was glass after all, and kinda cute...

Congrats on a good find!

Sounds like that would be a great boat for our tiny lake near home. I'll keep watching CL.

Sweet! Looks just right in the davits, too. I've thought of knocking a sailing/motoring dink together over the winter, but would jump at a deal like that.

All I had to do was add eye bolts to the bow and stern so I could hang her! It is like she was made for Destiny she fits so well.

I need to do some fiberglass repair so I'm thinking about repainting the dink and am looking for ideas.

One idea I have is to paint the exterior of the hull Forest green matching the trim on Destiny and then trim her in white. That way she matches Destiny but is opposite in colors.

The other idea is the traditional white with Forest green trim matching Destiny.

What do you guys think?

Oh yeah, one bonus of this little sailer is believe it or not she has a swing keel! Yup! Just loosen a line and the weighted keel swings out of the trunk and down! BEnifit is when towing this boat, she does not swamp herself from water coming up the trunk! The centerboard/keel is always in place!

That is by far the nicest $200 boat I have ever seen! I would love a sailing dinghy.

Can you put an outboard on her too?

Downside of going with a dark hull is that she's less visible if she gets loose and / or capsizes. Not either of those things would happen. That aside, it would be pretty, and a nice complement to Destiny. Hmm, just had a thought: do you think a green hull might be a bit Christmassy with the red and white sail?

Doing car restorations and customizeing I do a lot of fabricating. And don't understand some of the prices people charge to make something.

I can work out something quickly if you can give me a material list. (after we go sailing this weekend...lol)

I have a metal supplier that gets great stuff because he buys scrap metal.

The stainless from kithens of shut down restaurants can be gotten cheap and easily used to make anything. I want to do a few stainless anchors. .

Scott, if presented with that same deal I would immediately leap off my 12 step program wagon! It would be worth the beating I would get for going "within 12 steps of yet another boat "

Yes, the boat can take a very small motor. Maybe a 2 hp or so.
Good call on the dark hull being hard to see. I'll be kicking around ideas for color. I'm in no hurry. To many projects right now! LOL!

She definately looks happy on the davits!

Can you send me a couple picts of her mast base and swing keel set up?

I have a dingy in the rough project that will be my project boats dingy when done... think I said that right... a couple mods and she would be very similiar.

Thanks Scott!

OK Alan, you're in on the fiberglass work.
I'll keep ya posted and schedule some time so we can get together.
The new Dink is more of a toy than a "Tender To".
We have a 10'2" inflatable with a 15hp motor that is WAY to convenient when island hopping! Nothing like doing 20 kts with my bride, daughter AND a load of junk we HAD to have! LOL! We'll likely have both for a while!

Hey Billy,
I'll get you all the detailed photos you need. No worries there. It will take me a day or two though. Tomorrow, Sunday I'll be catching up with the pieces of the World Trade Center that will be crossing the state. They'll be in Spokane VERY early in the AM. I'll catch up with them in Ellensburg and be part of the escort on my Harley. We'll leave Ellensburg at 12:30 AM or so headed for Kitsap County Eventually arriving for a ceramony Sunday evening. Maybe Monday I can get ya some photos!

Scott;
Looking at your new dinky hanging on the davits, you should name it "Destiny's child"
