Cleaning sails

Getting ready for the season I found some mold/mildew on the Main. Any advice on cleaning up the sail? I was planning on warm water with a little dish soap and a soft brush. Do I dare use a little bleach?

Thanks in advance!

I would say no to bleach, but I've been told that Oxy Clean works well.

Oxyclean it is then. I'll try to get at it this weekend. I'll take some before and after shots and post them.

I put my main sail in the bath tub and used dishwasher machine soap. Stomped around on it and used a stiff scrub brush. Came out surprisingly whiter and it is the original sail !

I agree totoally with everything.
I personally got more of my stains out with dish soap also.
Like the bathtub idea, I did mine in the yard.

Please remember Oxyclean is peroxide bleach as a chlorine bkeach alternative, it can create a great deal of heat and must be rinsed thoroughly. Not good stuff to have on dacron for long periods.

There's my 2 cents.

I didn't get a chance to get at it yet. But I think I'll try soap and water first. If that doesn't work well I'll give Oxyclean a try and be sure to keep rinsing it off the sails.

Thanks,

Dan
