I found a very nice '93 Johnson Sailmaster 9.9 to replace my toasted Sailor 280. Compression on the "new" motor is 120 and 118, it looks great and the price was reasonable. Oh yeah, Cathy also likes that it's white! So I guess I'll be holding off on that heavy 4-stroke motor mount modification for a while longer.

I already ordered the remote kit for it and will probably have the lower unit pressure tested before putting it on the boat. I am one happy camper today!

BTW, I'm parting out the Sailor 280, so if you need anything let me know. What you guys don't want will end up on Ebay.

Need the service manual for your Johnson? I had a '92 and still have the manual. How about $10 or what do you have to trade?

I do need the service manual, but as I understand it '93 was the start of the "new" Johnson/Evinrudes. Yours probably had the slanted back lower cover.

The motor is white and matches the boat. This is good, you can re stripe it to fully match the boat like I did. I got carried away with the old pressure washer and cut off about half of my OEM motor stripping. If found press on high quality replacement stripping at my local marine shop in multiple widths. I took the pressure washer to the rest of the OEM stripping, dried it off and put on new matching stripping. I think I did the whole job for about $10.

My boat is the Honu which is Hawaiian for Sea Turtle so matching Sea Turtle vinyl stickers worked well too. Maybe a little overkill on the matching stuff and corny, but I like it.

I dug out the manual. Actually it covers the 2.3 to 8 HP Johnson/Evinrude. It was dated 1991. Been a while, I was thinkning that motor was a 9.9. Must have been an 8.

Nice job. The original stickers for mine are available, but at $75 I think I'll end up with a custom job like yours.

I could really use the tilt mechanism. The bracket that you release to tilt/lock and the long pin/shaft that holds it in place. Mine has been stuck in the water for several years now unable to tilt.
