A Maiden Voyage

Post by FranS »

After alot more work then we thought... isn't that always the way... we splashed our new wooden boat yesterday. The rehab involved stripping off the entire bottom and replacing it along with a number of framing peices. We reglassed the bottom, reinforced/replaced several areas where the rot was bad, and gave her a new paint job, inside and out.

We still have some small projects to get to, but we put the 7.5 horse long shaft on and took her for a spin... we did not rig the sails, just under power, wanted to make sure she was water tight.

Sorry no pics, but it was very satisfying. She's roomy and stable and moved at a nice clip under just 1/4 throttle. We tooled around the back bays and were able to get into some real skinny water which was nice. Lots of water fowl out, not too many other boaters. On and off the trailer in seconds... I could get used to this.

She's sitting in the driveway. We never got around to sprucing her up for pics to post on Craigslist and Ebay. Its on our to do list before we button her up for winter.

We still plan on letting her go. Just not up for doing the keel and we think the new boat will work better for us.
