I am trying to determine how the outhaul on my C22 is supposed to be rigged. I currently have it just as the previous owner had it, but it looks wrong to me. Also there is no means of reefing the main. I am wondering if he sort of combined the two. What do you all think?

These pictures were taken without the outhaul attached at all. The part that attaches to the clew was stuck and would not slide forward. The foot of the main fits pretty tight in the boom so it didn't move. It is now unstuck and attached correctly.

The diagrams in the manual show a much simpler outhaul arrangement.

I have the setup as in the manual page, I have never seen it like yours, but maybe someone with more experience can pitch in?

I have the c-26 with the set-up like the manual.... for sure the clew needs to go into the clevis pin on that "track?" fitting... it is almost like the PO might have set-up a furling of some kind or reefing of some kind... hard to see w/o a full pic but what you got, I agree, is complicated , the PO might also have fit a non chrysler mainsail for which he may have had to improvise the rig a bit... just an thought.

My C-22 is set up like the manual. The block was missing at the end of the mast for the first year I owned it. I just ran the outhaul rope around the pin at the end of the mast till I finally picked up a Harken block about a month ago. It works a lot better with the new block.

I have the original sails so I can reef the sails. The block and jam cleats you moved on the boom were for reefing the sails, well except for one jam cleat used for the out haul.

The jam cleat for the outhaul on mine is missing.

I have not moved anything. The previous owner did not replace the mainsail, so it might also be original. He owned the boat for 18 years before me. Can you provide some photos of how your reefing system is setup?

mine is like the manual except that I added a block to increase my purchase a bit

My C-22 is just like the manual also.

Personally, it was so stiff, that I figured something was jammed and needed to look into that problem.

I agree with NCSailer about attaching the claw and because my boom is much different then the original set-up. (looks like I'll just have to go sailing again so I can get pictures.)

I have 2 ???, missing off the end of my boom ,had 4 rivits holding each.
There is a small hook on the very end that I have used rope to hold the claw.



I like the claw attachment set-up on BMWdads boom, I wonder if I can find 1 like it?

I see now what I need to do to rig my boom right thanks.

Okay here are the photos of the outhaul on the port side of the boom from my C-22. I assume this to be OEM, except for the new very tinny Harken Block I added to the top end of the boom. The last couple of shots show the reefing block and jam cleat on the starboard side of the boom.

Okay, reef rigging, I thought this thread was on Outhaul Rigging.

I will have to get some photos of the sail reefed with close-ups of the rigging. I'll try to get those photos shot and posted this weekend. Those are photo's I wish I had seen last year before winter hit.

P.S. Seems to me someone, I think it was EE who put in links to several sail reefing methods which is where I learned to do it correctly in the last few weeks. It was all drawings but ounce I saw the drawings my rigging all made sense or should I say more logical then the way I was doing it.
