TMI 30

Post by Sundowner »

I may be buying a 1981 TMI 30.
Hard to find info about the boat. Any owners out there?
Also looking for a manual (specs. running rigging, etc.)
Thanks

Apparently the Chrysler/TMI 30 became the Ticon 30:

Sorry, that's all the help I can give you.

My set of Chrysler/TMI/Ticon links includes a couple on the 30

An owners list is on this Ticon Site
http://members.tripod.com/sail_ticon/

And an info page
http://members.tripod.com/sail_ticon/images/t30100.pdf

Nice looking boat, that 11' beam on a 30 footer has got to be roomy, haven't ran across any owners here tho.

Ha yes the Ticon 30 is on my wish list too.

Thought I had more data on this but, here are 2 .jpg that I have of the 1979 Chrysler C-30 pre build documentation. I can't find any of my data on the actual built Canadian boat the Ticon 30. If I find it I will post it here too.

Thanks for the links.
No luck on full specs though?
My next reply may be from my new/old boat.
Lot's of work to do.
I would like to replace the old style curved non-adjustable traveler.
I was going to check into the possibility of using a Catalina 30 traveler.
Any other ideas?

Well I bought the boat.
Now the work (fun) begins. I also have the original manual with all of the line specs which is great.
Wish me luck.

She is a little "scanky" right now. I don't think she would want any photos taken until she gets a little make up on. Give me a few weeks.

Sundowner's maiden voyage was Saturday. Motored from our slip to the waist pump out station and back. 14 gallons of 5 year old waist - stanky. No one lost any fingers or toes. So, good first outing.

Sunday she went for a shakedown sail. Winches a little stiff, some other minor things, but overall GREAT. My wife and I saw beautiful sunset.

Some photos soon.

photos please also sailing review... that is one hell've beam for a 30 footer... might be the beamest ever..also do you have shoal keel,, they are rumored to have difficulty pointing at all and dangerously inferior construction... let us know fact from fiction on this... thanks and congrats on shakedown... I am still alghing and I will add that to my post cruise checklist..."have everyone count toes and fingers"! funny

Ouch!
I just got her and I am already getting defensive.
I'll let you know how she compares to the Catalina 30 (10'-11" beam), and the 2 Catalina 27's and the other 3 smaller boats that I owned in the past.
Unless of course she falls apart from "dangerously inferior construction".

Hey, if she made it this far in one peice she should be ok ( but I would still get a survey on any old sailboat)

I hope to hear she beats the pants off those other boats.....kinda upset she got rap and was never a success in volume... I like to hear my reviews first hand.... too many rumors out there on the boards... you should hear how they trash talk those Hunters... unreal and not fair!

So far so good. Sailed 3 times. Light wind 8mph, heavier 15 - 20, then light again. Still floating.
I have upgraded the deck organizers to Harken, the original sheeves were just about gone. The first real upgrade will be to replace the traveler. Existing is curved with adjustable stops that you move by hand. Not functional at all. Had the same system on a previous Catalina 27. I also want to add a couple of rope clutches soon.
Still lots of cosmetic stuff to do.

Not sure how to post a photo, but if this works it is a photo is right after I bought the boat.
I'll take some of the interior and post.

And I just updated that topic to explain a bit better using photobucket as the example.

Tgentry, that also updated the link in your post in case you notice it used to to say "902" and now says "1374"

A little rainy over the weekend so I replaced the Head. Went very smooth.
I thought about a rebuild kit but decided to replace the whole unit. More money, less time and hopefully a one time deal.
Sundowner had an AC unit at one time and in the process I did find the thru hull for the water intake for the AC. All of the vent work is still in place - so maybe some day.
