What is it they say about boats, holes, money and water... well it came true for us big time today.

Our weekend project was to paint the hull above the water line. Did all the research, got good advice here, purchased all the supplies, spent hours cleaning, sanding and prepping. Had some time waiting for the patch material to set up on some holes we filled on the stern, so I decide to crawl under the boat to scrape some barnacles.

Im under the keel, look up and discover that the starboard keel braket is corroded! When we got this boat five years ago we said that if a repair to the keel had to be made we would know it was time to part with her.

Although it is a very doable repair, its not something we have the time or desire to undertake.

And to think we installed the new hinged mast step last week.

So we are offering her here first for $1500. We will sell as is with the trailer which is single axel rated to 3500lbs. Other than the keel brackets she's in good shape. Trailer registration is current, three sails, main, jib and 150 genoa, PFD's, anchor with chain rode, bumpers, newly rewired, new battery, new porta potty, rigging in good shape, full complement of cushions, motor mount , newly installed hinged mast step, rasing bridles, extra lines. Fix the keel brackets and she's ready to sail.

Actually, that's a very fair price for that boat, even with the keel problem.

Esp. since I was waiting to hear how the paint job went... I was planning the same this weekend and our weather could not have been better for preping and painting her topsides (but I chickened out and just polished and buffed her again this season) your boat is gorgeous, and is exactl the blue I will be painting mine...

i will add my voice to the chorus here..."FRAN .. FIX 'ER UP!"

We have mixed feelings as well. The marina refunded our mooring fee, so at least we are not out anything. We keep her on a trailer in the driveway so no storage fees. If we did undertake this repiar we talked about really making a true refurb and committing to this boat for the duration.

For now we will see if we get any takers!

there is a link here on the forum by a member that has a step-by-step, pic-by pci , EXCELLENT ( kudos to this guy!) write up of this very repair.... so you can see exactly how it is done ...not as much fun as painting her.... ( BTW: what paint were you going to use for the topsides?)

also, if for any reason the trailer should become avail....and if said trailer was a tandem to hold a c-26....well just IF, let me know..

The trailer is a single axle not big enough for your boat.

As for paint we were going to use Interlux brightsides. There is a site called Jamestown Distributors which contains step by step instructions for prep and painting. came to about $200 for the paint and prep supplies.

Thanks for the refernce to the keel repairs, i have seen it and if we elect to go forward we will use it as a guide.

Hmmm,,, after all the work you've done do you really want to quit sailing?? Even if you get another boat there will probably be more work to do... it seems ya've done most the repairs needed already...

I know my keel was a pain, I even got the new SS brackets from Trey, which I totally screwed up and couldn't get to fit! I ended up just taking a wire brush on a drill to the old ones, which are aluminum, and they actually cleaned up better then I first thought.

With enough wood blocks, a couple 2 ton car hydraulic jacks, you can get at the keel, pin, and brackets w/o totally removing the keel like I did and still get the job done. Then 4200 it all together

It appears you haven't totally given up, and yea with a few friends you could get it done in weekend I'm sure
