bridles

When I took the mast down on my 26 I used some bridles either side to ease the mast down. Worked reallly well. However, I have since discarded the bridles and want to put new bridles on the mast to raise it. How do I measure how long the bridles should be and how high up the mast ( while it is lying on the deck supports ) should I attach the bridles ? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
