You don't have to be a meteorologist to know your local weather. Always check the weather before going sailing. As sailors we all know how important the weather is to us! Especially the wind! Did you know that in the Northern Hemisphere you can quickly and reasonably reliably predict where the center of a low pressure or center of a high pressure system is? How you ask?? Easy!!!
Stand with your face to the wind. remember, this must be true wind and not apparent if you are on a boat. Hold your hands straight out to your sides. The center of a low will be to your right and some what behind you. The center of a high will be to your left and ahead of you!
The way I do it is simply face the wind and keeping my body from turning look as far over my right shoulder as I can. There! I'm looking towards the center of the low! Cool huh?!?!?
Question for today
Speaking of weather,
There are 4 basic types of weather fronts generally recognized!
Can you name all 4??
For your entertainment I have found this picture of a front on the internet!
