Swing Keel Cleaning and Painting

Post by tgentry »

I'm working out how to do some projects over the winter or first thing in the spring. In this case, the latter.

How do you clean and paint the swing keel? Do you do it with the boat in the slings at your favorite marina?

EE, I saw your excellent instructions on getting the boat off the trailer and digging a pit for the keel, but I don't have a spot (or the cajones) to do that.

You might check e-bay for deals on bottom paint also. I picked up some in a dented can for a good price. Rustoleum makes a good primer for the keel, though most oil base metal paints will work as well.

I just restored my 26 on a trailer so i didn't work on the keel last year. I just pick the boat up with the crane dropped the keel an a trailer then dropped the boat on the boat trailer.I will sand blast then interprotect 2000 then paint with VC17. I would rather do it right the first time
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
