Mast raising bridle specs

Post by parared »

Hi all,
I've been looking for specifications to make my own mast raising bridle for my c22 ( non-poptop ). Anyone have a description on how to make one? I was trying to figure it out from

http://www.captainscottsailing.com/SteppingTheMast.html

but was worried about line lengths and loop positions.

Thanks alot,
Chris

Hey Chris,
The bridles I made are very simple. Stainless steal wire was used.
Each leg of the bridle including the eye is 33 inches long. I could not find an actual spec for it so I used the C22 Manual that is posted at this link to eyeball the length.

Ech leg is the same length of 33 inches with the center eye in the center of the bridle as possible. Don't forget to use a collar in each eye! You do not want to put a crease in the stainless!

When hooked to the boat, count the holes in the toe rail from the front of the boat. One leg of the bridle goes in hole 23 and the other leg of the bridle is in hole 32. The center eye then points up towards the mast when all is hooked up!

I'd happily make a set and swap them for a nice tiller handle for one of my C22 boats!! However you can very easily make or have a set made at your local hardware store!! :)

I agree on using the boom on my 26 is a pain too so I used 2x4 when I put it up and origial bridles ouch they broke and i almost wore the mast so I used chain at the toe rail and ratchet straps. also used 10' of 1"pipe and worked great and with 100' of 7/16 line and 2 double blocks and shackles did not even have to use the winch to raise the 28' mast
Catch the wind and ride the wave, Have fun
