Inter coastal waterway (Georgia area) info needed

Post by slane1124 »

Am about to take the plunge from inland lake sailing to ICW from Savannah up to St Simon's Island. I want to start off slowly (have seen lots of horror movies about those who bit off too much too quickly). Looking for reference material  regarding marinas along the way, facilities, distances... Again, trying to be VERY careful. All input is greatly appreciated!!

Robbie,

We used Claiborn Young's "Cruising guide to Western Florida" for our trip last summer from Ft. Myers to Tarpon Springs. It lists marina's, and other facilities, as well as points of interest and history. It also gives navigational guides for the ICW, rivers and bays. I would highly recommend Claiborn's work. He has written quite a few guides including "Cruising Guide to Coastal South Carolina and Georgia", which you should find useful. You can find them on amazon, or directly from Pelican Publishing Company www.pelicanpub.com. There is also www.cruisernet.net. It covers coastal cruising all along the Southeast coasts.
