1975 Trent Severn Expedition

Post by Turtlepirate »

In the mid seventies, my mother worked for Roy Bacon at Chrysler Marine and it looks like Labor Day of 1975 my parents, along with Roy and a few others sailed the Trent Severn waterway. I am sure they were on the '22 for this trip. What follows is one of the particpants account of the weekend. I don't think he was an experienced sailor. I think he was impressed enough to write up the account of the trip.

This is the first time I have posted and uploaded image files. I hope it is legible.

Thanks for the post it was interesting to read. Sailing on the puget sound I have not encountered any locks. Must be an interesting experience on a small boat. Do you sail anywhere?

Hi !
I had an O'Day Mariner and sailed a lot in Grand Traverse Bay(West Bay). I hadn't sailed since I was a child, with Roy Bacon, and was terrified of capsizing. I think it was part of a drill of seeing the handling of a boat.

My girlfriend assured me that it would be terrifically difficult to capsize the boat, and that it was a purposeful action. She sailed extensively on lake Michigan near Chicago and had a J24
I now own a 1975 Pirateer,(just like I used to go on as a kid) and I will sail it next spring. The summer is so much better when you sail. I will probably look at getting a 22' . I have good memories of those boats.

Here in Michigan, most sailors are familiar with the Trent Severn waterway, and yes it seems very interesting.

Happy sailing!
