Chrysler 22 Keel Cable

Post by DejaVu »

I purchased a Chrysler 22 last summer. We had a great time on her . My biggest concern is that the Keel Winch Cable is a Nylon line. I’m not feeling warm and fuzzy with this set-up.

Do you think that I should change it out to a cable? If so, does anyone know the correct size? 3/16” or 1/4”?

The swing keel weighs over 900 lbs. Stainless Steel 3/16" wire rope is the only option. REPLACE it and all supporting hardware at your earliest convenience , or when it (nylon) breaks, the keel trunk will get damaged when the keel falls and find yourself unable to easily retrieve

I’m definitely going to do it before spring launch. Have you done it on the trailer? I can clearly reach the shackle.
