C22 trailer measurements

Post by Caldonia »

Hi Trailer Enthusiasts,
I have a used 25' steel tandem boat trailer, at a local trailer shop, for upgrades to axle and brakes.
The shop doesn't specialize in boat trailers, never mind sailboat trailers. I have searched and searched, and can't find plans or specs for the position and height of the bunks. I thought I had found them, but it was for a C-26. The shop wants measurements for placement, and ultimately I will have to carefully drive my C22 on its present Coke-can-and-paperclips trailer to a boat ramp, and swap the trailer out for this refurbished one...

I've found lots of postings for diagrams or photos, but due to time and technology, I can no longer find the linked documents.

Any help would be great, even if it's for measurements that you wish were different. A beginning point is what I need.

Thank you!

Attached is a photo/drawing of my original C22 trailer.

I used this as a reference point for my new bunk design. Hope it helps..

Thank you C22Bob!
I was happy to get actual measurements & even nicer they are on a photo.
I realize now, I was asking "how long is a piece of string?".
So I made a drawing, and it has lots of errors, I'm sure, because I could not find a technical drawing for the chrysler trailer for C22. It seems to be the only one missing in the catalog.
Anyway, this brings me to a new question, which is:

Does the keel rest below the height of the sides of the trailer? And by how much?

Here's my drawing of your trailer:

Here's someone else's trailer that I drew I diagram of.
I found his measurements for bunks in his posting history, and I'm off a little.
Bunks = 8' // Rear support (A) = 22" // Forward support (B) = 16"

Here is yet another trailer diagram, based on a Craigslist photo.
I think this is closer to what my trailer looks like, I just want the bunks to be as low as possible.
Can anyone confirm or correct these guesses of support heights or roller placements?

I'm adding couple more pics if it helps. The first is my old trailer, with boat. Second and third show final product. The keel is visible and you can see how it rests on rollers. Resting on the rollers, with my trailer, the bottom of the keel is probably very close to the same height as the side rails. This is the trailer that came with my C22, and is not the original Chrysler trailer. It's possible that some trailers may allow for the keel to drop a few more inches, but at some point you hit the trailer axle. I know you want to keep the boat as low as possible for launching. I can tell you that with my boat it's not possible to simply back into the water and expect the boat to float off. I always strap launch....another photo :)

Wow thanks for the photos! Now I understand your trailers have little to do with the original Chrysler trailer.
I will be studying your photos, and coming up with my interpretations of the measurements.
Later, I will worry about strap launching...

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
