For those looking for something used and cheap. Land Rover Discoveries from 1999 to 2002 are a viable option. 4.0l aluminum V8, full time 4WD, two speed transfer case, enough capacity to pull a 26 or anything you want. There were some faulty engine blocks in the 2003 trucks, so go earlier. Seats 5 full size people, plus 2 kids. LR was owned by Ford then, Bosch electronics.
The truck with SLS (self leveling suspension) have the ability to raise the rear by 2 inches for approach angle off road. Has the effect of lowering the tail of your trailer and making it easy to launch. Also makes the truck sit level loaded and ride nice.
I use the "sport" mode on the auto transmission, and got 14.8mpg pulling it home from Alabama.

What a difference the right truck makes. I brought My Getaway home last Sat. and borrowed my friends F-350 with a V 10 and if you did not look in the mirror you would not have known it was there and I caught myself looking to make sure.
Catch the wind and ride the wave, Have fun

For complete listings of vehicles, options and rated towing capacity all the way back to 1999 go to http://www.trailerlife.com/Towing-Guides/
I find this info very useful since I generally don't purchase new.

Bingo! Options count. My 2500HD has a 3.73:1( I think) axle ratio and therefore the towing capacity is about 9500 lbs. the same vehicle with a 4.10:1 axle has a higher (12,000 lbs ?) towing capacity. And look for a factory towing or snowplow option for the wiring harness, extra coolers, etc. I may be a little off on the numbers but I don't want to dig thru the OM.
