short shaft or long shaft?
We just got a c-26 at auction, so no motor. Does the outboard need to be a long shaft or can you use a short shay motor. Motor size I am guessing is between 9-15hp.

Welcome Aboard ! 25" shaft is what you'll need for the factory motor mount; a 20" shaft will put the prop just under water in calm conditions, but will pop out most of the time.
Original OB was usually a 12.9hp 2 stroke (Model was Sailor 280). Seems like most folks are using a 9-10 HP four stroke, but that may require a modification to the motor bracket due to weight and size.
