Mast step crack

i see, i was thinking that if the mast moves side to side while putting it up the hinge would put stress on the base...maybe i am wrong. just wondering...thanks

With out the collar on the mast step I think it would put a great deal of stress on the mast step.
With the collar around the mast step and the added strength of the fiber glassing to fill up the gap. Plus the hinge is resting on the collar supporting the weight of the mast while raisin I am not too worried.

The proof will be in the testing next spring.
