Home again, home again

Post by Windward »

Hi all,

Yes, we did make it home without incident, and the unfortunately named Bristol 22 now resides at the bottom of our driveway. I'll get some pics in the next bit and post 'em. At least she's still a Herreshoff, and in fairness, Chrysler cruising sailboats really didn't exist in 1970 when she was born.

The weather has cooperated somewhat, and I've removed the 1" ice accretion on the side decks, the deeper deposit in the cockpit, and the first 5" of the ice plug residing in the bilge. Nice, deep bilge, full of nice, deep, frozen water. There's a bilge pump frozen in there, but I'll need to get it thawed enough to free the outlet and the impeller.

Need to lose the carpet, drain the frozen yet full water tank, do some major cleaning, remove, refurb and replace the port bulkhead, rebed all deck hardware and then see what remains.

I think that despite the fact that she's not a Chrysler, and needs a few more things than I'd hoped, she's going to be a good boat. The interior layout is impressive, given that she's only 22 feet and doesn't have standing headroom. If she sails like a mini-Windward that's all I could ask for.

Glad to hear your home safe also!

I know driving 70 with my boat funny things happen if I brake... the boat will try an pass on the right.. then the left... then the right...

Have fun with your new project!

and Bhacurly, you're on the flat lands. Out here in the Rockies they just try and push you down the hills and over the cliff (I've got to get some electric brakes and a surge brake!).
