Anyone race the Mug Race in a C22?

Post by Banshi »

I have raced it twice in Lightnings, both times it was a 6 hour affair in blistering Florida heat and humidity (fortunately there was enough wind to finish both races 1980/1981, not always the case in May). I hope to get my new old boat in ship shape by late fall and learn the ins and outs of this boat in time to enter the race which comes around in May. I am not really looking to place well, just to spend the day with several hundred other sail boats sailing up the St. John's river trying not to run into each other or run aground. Having a swing keel will help prevent the latter.

Yeah, just west of Jacksonville, far enough to avoid the crowded city but still close enough to reach water in less than an hour. To be honest though I'd rather live a little farther north where the summer heat and humidity don't drain you down like a cheap battery.
