Original wood work

Post by mariner »

Does anyone know what the wood species is that is original on the c22 interior? The slim batten that runs along side of the shelves? Mine is unfinished and I would like to add some pieces, I'm thinking about making a low profile "box" surrounding the mast support to help hide through deck wires and support the cabin light and would Luke to match the wood species. Thanks

Teak, but you will find its expensive. around $25 a board foot. you can find some good deals on ebay for scrap pieces that you can make things like boxes. I paid $10 for 10lbs of diffierent size pieces that came in handy for a few little projects including making a handle for the hatch on my C-22.

I was real luck that the parts C-22 I bought had a lot of teak trim I could use on both my c-22 and C-26 and now I'm useing some on the E-32

You're right, the wood is teak. A close second would be mahogany. Very stable wood (used for making guitar necks for instance) and good weight density. It's cheaper than teak - I've even found some good pieces on pallets.

You may want to check into teak veneer or teak faced plywood.
The PO of Happy Place recovered the table and bulkheads with teak veneer, and they look great.

Might I suggest a more environmentally responsible and cost-effective alternative? White oak will be 1/3 the price of teak or less, is more likely to come from sustainable forests, will look quite attractive, and with proper care will likely outlast the boat. Just a thought.
