My new "free" C-22

Post by Lucky Jack »

Probably spent at least $500 so far just moving her half a mile home so there goes the free part. The Catalina 22 trailer I had really didn't work at all so the boat is currently precariously balanced on it till I figure out what to do next. I have no paperwork yet and the hull ID is too faint to read so I'm not even sure of the year model. Maybe some hawk-eyed person can tell from the pics.

Nobody is going to be able to tell you anything specific from those pics, but if you go to the top right hand corner of the transom there should be a small plate with the HIN on it. It's embossed so you should still be able to read the number even if it's been painted over. Immediately below it the same number is actually embossed in the gelcoat, bigger and easier to read.

Also, since the boat was registered with them at some time, Texas Fish and Game should be able to get you all the information you need based upon that register number and the sticker up on your bow. That's the route that I had to take with my LS-16.

Thanks, good idea about the TX Fish and Game. The number on the metal plate is not the same as the one engraved into the hull, at least not on this boat. I saw another boat like it (same red hull with a black mast and toerail) on the Chrysler website and that one was a 1980 so it could be from then. I'll know for sure when I get the title sorted out.

Same in Wisconsin, I think most DNR's are happy with what ever info you can supply, the completed form and of course THE CHECK!

That looks like a 1980 model. The give away is the black toe rail and mast, and the shape of the side windows.

Free, is an excellent price! Good find.
