Jib rigging

Last October we purchased our 1978 Chrysler 20 Sailboat. The sails, main and jib, we assume are not the original sails. Our question is; shouldn't the jib be attached to the fore stay? Our jib has no grouments or ties for attaching the leading edge of the jib to the forstay. Of course the jib has a cable sown in its leading edge from the bow to the top of the mast. Please respond if you know and/or have suggestions.

Secondly, the holding area at the stern of our boat, has a plug in the bottom of it to drain this hold area. What tool is used to loosen/remove this plug? To date we have been bailing and mopping out this area. What is the answer to removing this drain plug?Smooth sailing,

A picture of your head sail would be helpful, but it is possible that it is used with a roller furler/reefer.
