Securing block of wood in mast step

Post by Captain Zach »

Hey all. I will be replacing my mast step on my C22. I’ve read a ton of post on here (it’s such a great resource). However, I haven’t seen how to secure the block of wood in the mast step. My glass and wood were compromised unfortunately.
I’ve read the mast step needs to be 2.5 inches above the deck. Do I simply cut a block of hard wood and shape it to fit snug, and glass over it?? Or does it need epoxy in the bottom and then glass over it?

Epoxy in the bottom would be an excellent move. In fact I would waterproof the block of wood with epoxy before I glassed int in.
