insurance in the Bahamas

Post by CraigWik »

I'm planning to sail my C26 (Nansen) from Florida to the Bahamas in February, then spend 4-5 weeks exploring over there.

Does anyone have recommendations for insurance? I just started looking into this. My agent sent me some info saying that my present insurance company (Progressive) offers a Bahamas rider for only $120, but they require the boat have an inboard engine. My C26 currently has a Chrysler 10 HP 2-stroke outboard. I was planning to replace it with a 10 HP 4 stroke outboard, but have no plans or time to retrofit an inboard. The other problem is that this rider appears to only cover the portion of the Bahamas that is within 120 nautical miles of the U.S. coastline, which would exclude quite a bit of the Bahamas.

Thanks,
Craig
