So i did it again. I bought a 1976 c22 without a title. I know it has not been reported stolen and hasent been registered in 18 years. Any ideas how to track previous owners? I have the list from tpwd but that person no longer can be tracked. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

You should not need a title. In ND we do nto have titles for boats. So I have the old title I got when I purchased it from IL. But did not get a new one when I registered it in ND. All you have to do is register it in TX and say you purchased it from a state that does not use titles. If TX uses titles they will give you a new title. All they do is look up in their records and verify that that the state you purchased it from does not use titles.

That is the issue here. The boat shows last registered here so they hold you too it unless you register in another state first. It's great on one side since there is a tracking when done properly. But when under table deals are done it makes it hard to save a boat that was sitting in a field rather than be on the water. Just figured that since this is the only group of chrysler sailors maybe somebody would know the history. Just need to know what would help y'all to recognize her.

Thanks for the offer skipperdan. There is a process in place here for boats without titles. I've used it before with my 80. The boat has been really well taken care of and some of the mods listed on this site (while normal for sailing reasons) seems to have been done as pictured on this site. I guess I was curious if there is a member here that may have owned the boat at some point. And since sail numbers don't always correlate with hins I was trying to see if there was a way to find maybe a previous owner that is on this site.

You might consider posting pictures and registration numbers for the boat! Someone may recognize it!
In Washington, if you have a bill of sale you can request a title. It can take some time though.

I purchased a boat and trailer with no titles. The state told me I could have the boat title but the trailer I had to wait three years!
I restored and sold said boat and trailer in less than 3 years and the state promptly issued the new owner titles for both! Go figure!

Sometimes the state will have previous owners info if the boat was registered! I'd go that route.

Trying to upload pictures now. Just need to resize. Thanks, the previous owner route is done. I can't find a track at all. Tried through the tax office. Post office and parks and wildlife. Either unfortunatly has passed or never wanted to be found with this boat.

She looks nice! I also had a blue hulled C22! I really liked the color after I buffed her out! Very pretty!
