What a good sail!

Post by timlabute »

Hey all! Tim here.

Had a great day sailing Lake St Clair last Saturday. As this was my very first sail where I had no one on board that had ever sailed before, it was really my first solo sail with no help at all. I had three guests but they were just along for the ride.

I am very proud to say that I managed just fine. We went with the #2 jib and a full main in 5-10 knots of wind. We rode a beam reach for a while at 3.5 knots. On the way back in later on the wind picked up quite a bit. We kept the same sail plan but switched to close hauled on a starboard tach.

We made 3 knots on the close haul and she pointed almost straight in to the wind! I am amazed by how well she sailed windward.

Here are some pics I took while sailing my first solo!

Thanks to everyone on here for helping me get Free Ride ready! Was much easier to do with your support :)
