Man-O-War Lost Battens ?

I took my Man-O-War out for a short spin today in a reasonably strong wind. When I was breaking everything down to haul it home, I discovered that two of the three battens were gone. There were fiberglass units from Aquabatten. The batten pockets have not ripped and are still intact. The battens somehow came out while I was sailing and are at the bottom of the lake.

Has anybody had this happen before ?

Also, any recommendations to ensure that I don't lose the replacements ?

Finally, any thoughts on batten width ? The batten pockets can probably handle a width of almost 2." The current/lost units are 5/8" wide. I'm thinking about getting the new ones at 1" width. Should I expect any sort of difference in performance from a wider batten ?

Could you make some out of fiberglass? Maybe wrap a little sliver of wood in roving?
