Re: Mid boom sheeting - how critical is the traveler location?
Thanks for your input. I’m leaning towards staying with the original position. The key is to be mindful when going up or down the cabin steps.

Mid boom sheeting - how critical is the traveler location?
I’m adding a cabin top traveler to my C26. I can mount it exactly where the original main sheet attainments are or move it few inches forward to allow move room for entering the cabin. What’s your thoughts?

Re: Easiest cockpit floor fix?
Unfortunately only a small portion of the original plywood is left. The part nearest to the bridge deck. I pulled the two windows, obviously one was leaking. I’ve decided to cut out the entire floor. It will be easy to securely install the new plywood base because I can add dadoed oak sides to it th...

Re: Is it practical to recut sails?
The seller measured them and it turns out the foresail will work just fine. The mainsail is two foot shorter than a C26 but has a 6” longer foot. Fortunately I have a spare boom that will accommodate that. When I posted the question I was thinking the sails were taller. For $250 shipped I’m going to...

Is it practical to recut sails?
I’ve stumbled onto a good deal on a complete set of good used S2 8/meter sails. I compared that boats sail plan to my C26 and determined that the sails are a little larger than what is specified for the C26. Is it possible to to resize them?

An inexpensive substitute would be a wooden replacement wheel barrel handle.

Re: Vertical play in the rudder post?
Update - it’s was difficult but I managed to finally get the collar off. It took shearing off two of the set screws (Phillip’s head 1/4-20 bolts), applying heat with a torch and using a wheel puller and a hammer. You are correct. The collar was too high on the shaft. I’m going to have to drill and t...

Easiest cockpit floor fix?
The cockpit plywood backing beneath my C26 is 60% rotted away. I can visualize a number of approaches to make this repair. Undoubtedly working from below to cut out the remaining damaged wood and then replace the entire backing in one piece would preserve the original floor visually intact. This wou...

Re: Cabin floor repair what to do???
2016 was a long time ago but it’s 2021 and I happen to be finishing up my C26 floor repair. My plywood was already covered with a terrible coat of delaminating glass, resin and paint. I ground it down as smooth as I could and built it back using polyester resin, 3 layers of glass and fairing compoun...

Re: Lone Star 13 Rigging
There’s not much to it. Jib sheets and a main sheet. I have my main sheet led through a swiveling jam cleat on the cockpit floor just aft of the mast. I added fixed jamb cleats on the port and starboard side decks aft of the stays. The main sheet attaches to the end of the boom and runs through a si...

Re: Is longer better?
My wife hates the idea of straying from the original design. The boom I want to use can easily be shortened to mimic the length of the original boom. One reason I want to use it is it’s designed for single line reefing with two reefs. To keep things simple I’ll probably stick with the specified main...

Re: C26 anatomy
When I acquired my boat the floor was in awful shape. Apparently a former owner had replaced part of the plywood over the rear bilge and troweled some fiberglass resin over the top of it. I have put a lot of effort into smoothing out the entire cabin floor with additional resin, layers of fabric and...

Is longer better?
I have the option of rigging my C26 with a boom that is 1-foot longer than the stock Chysler boom. It’s a really nice Kenyon boom with an internal outhaul cable. I can always shorten the end and get back to standard length. Since I don’t have a mainsail yet, I’m wondering if having a larger main wit...

C26 anatomy
Am I correct in thinking the C26 centerboard version has two distinct and separate bilges? One in the front ahead of the keel and the second one in the rear under the companionway ladder. I’ve discovered that on my boat the area directly along both sides of the centerboard trunk is a poured mixture ...

Re: Vertical play in the rudder post?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Upon closer examination I can see I need to replace the bearings. I’ve got the tiller bracket soaking with penetrating oil so I can drop the rudder. It appears to be seized to the shaft.

Vertical play in the rudder post?
My C26 has about 2” of up/down vertical play in the rudder post shaft. The boat is on the trailer and the weight of the rudder assembly has the excess play exposed where the rudder shaft exits the hull. The lower synthetic rudder bearing can be slid up and down 2” on the post until it seats in the b...

Thanks for keeping this forum going
I’m the owner of two Chysler sailboats. I completely restored a Lone Star 13 about 25 years ago and I’ve still got it. Unfortunately it’s overdue for a new paint job. Back in 1997 I acquired a C26, hull only. It was suffering from hull blisters. I built a boat shed over it and ground out all the bli...

Replacement plywood
The plywood that is the rear berth in my C26 must be replaced. Along with the underside of the cockpit sole. Assuming I stop the cockpit leak - does anyone know if these areas were originally built using exterior grade or marine grade plywood? I’d like to use exterior grade for cost savings. Any sug...

C-26 Spreaders - need length only
I’m a new member. I just lucked out and purchased on eBay a completely rigged original mast and boom for my 1978 C26. Unfortunately the seller has misplaced the spreader tubes. They are mixed in with his vast inventory of salvaged masts and parts. He’s asked me for sizing so that he can pick them ou...
