Nice work Bob and good ideas. My keel was very tight with very little clearance between it and the keel brackets. It was a snug fit jacking it back up into position to install my new pin. I cleaned up the old pipe fitting snubber, painted it with rustoleum black and greased the inside. I then shorte...

Beautiful job Bob...looks nicer than mine. I also used the coal tar epoxy. I did not thin and only put on two coats, but it seemed to turn out well. Looking forward to see the completion.

How high up you can crank the keel depends on how the cable was made up that attaches to it. As long as the crimped on cable clamp is nice and close to the end loop you should be ok. I rest my keel on the trailer frame in the V that was made for that purpose. Good Luck and do post pics for us to see.

i just went out and measured the swing keel. Mine is resting on the support on the trailer. It measures 16 inches to the bottom of the hull. It can be cranked up about two inches or so...that would make it 13 or 14 inches to the bottom.

I've been disappointed with Sail magazine since they switched to the new format...there doesn't seem to be as much content that interests me and what is there is somewhat less thorough.

I really doubt that it is a furling boom though...in the video they run part of the mainsheet thru that mid boom block on the underside and thru the fairlead on the cockpit sole. That is where they show the helmsman controlling the main. The other end of the mainsheet runs aft thru the block at the ...

I watched the video...I think that the horseshoe thing goes at the end of the boom if there is not an attachment tang there already. the other little block attaches underneath the boom on a short track mid way forward. That is a good video.

You should be able to tell if the boom rotates by looking at the gooseneck attachment that connects boom to mast. If the boom can rotate while the gooseneck stays still then it furls...only a guess here.
