Rudder work has begun.

I purchased two pieces of 11 gauge stainless from Cut2Size metals and cut them to a plywood pattern with a friend's plasma cutter. After much thought, I elected to use a bronze through hull I had laying around in lieu of the OEM plastic. This required machining a Delrin bushing to accommodate the di...

Christmas Chrysler

Christmas Chrysler! Made my wife feel a little better about all the boats in the driveway.

The supplier I used had 11 gauge but no 1/8". 11 gauge is about .120", so it is only .005" thinner than 1/8, and so much stronger than the factory aluminum.

What did you do with PVC pipe and epoxy? I remember seeing something about that online before I bought the boat, but I can't remember where. I was at West Marine today, and the Forespar marelon through hull I saw won't have much meat left after it is bored out to 1-1/2". If I go that route, I w...

Starting the rudder repair

My aluminum rudder assembly was cracked in four places, bent in a couple more, and the rudder blade flopped around in the cheeks. I have removed the rudder and taken it apart. The pivot bolt hole in the blade was wallowed out, so I plan to epoxy in a delrin bushing to bring it back to size. Water al...

Chrysler Boat Guide

I have a "Chrysler Boat Guide" that came with my boat. It is a 5 x 8 color brochure with generic information. There are a couple of pages about the sailboats and trailers, but it is mostly power boat stuff. I have scanned it and saved it as a .pdf, so if anyone would like to have it, let m...

I kind of look at this as a temporary fix (although I may never change it). It took me about an hour and a half to make this strap. It's been a few years, but I built an electric aluminum melting furnace following Dave Gingery's book and made quite a few aluminum castings. I still have the furnace a...

Fixing a broken mast base

My C22 mast base was broken where you place the pin when raising the mast. I was going to cast a new one, but my furnace is down right now. So I thought I would fabricate a stainless "horse shoe" to take care of it in the mean time. Link to pictures below. Pay no attention to the date on t...

Thanks. I will check with Rig Right.

My boat too leaks a little in the rain. PO thinks it comes from the fuel tank area. I haven't tried to track it down yet.

Thanks guys!

Where do I get one? If you have a hinged mast step, do you still need the mast raising bridles?

That's where it appeared to be while sitting on the trailer. So there is basically no good place to put one. I will take your advice and install a portable pump that can be moved around.

Thanks!

Lowest point in a C22

I purchased my boat on a trailer and have not yet placed it in the water. Can anyone tell me where the low point of the cabin sole is when the boat is floating properly on her waterline? I have no bilge pump at all and would like to install one if there is a suitable low point in which to place it. ...

Indeed you did. Evidently, this was a rarely taken option as no one else seems to have one. So some previous owner removed it. I think I will fabricate a nice mahogany bracket to hold my portapotty there and call it done. Thanks for everyone's input!

Aha! The "Good Stuff" Mariner posted shows a price list with an optional

"Permanantly mounted recirculating marine head". Maybe my through hull was for water pick up?

Well, looks like the general consensus is that it is not original equipment. PO said nothing about anything being there, and he used a portapotty. The boat had the slide out galley when the PO got it, but he said he discarded the galley during clean up because it was in such bad shape. I really wish...

Yes, it is a through hull you can see on the outside. I should have taken a picture of that too. I agree, it must have been for a marine head of some type.

Thanks guys. You've got my curiosity up now. I will try some PB Blaster and soak this pipe cap to get it off. I want to know if there still is a nylon rod in there! If not, I can put one in there. I have read enough to know the keel can cause some serious damage if the cable breaks, so I am replacin...

Opinions? Keel pendant-stainless cable or synthetic?

In cruising the net, I have seen both stainless cable and things like low stretch vectran synthetic used for the keel pendant. What do you use, what diameter is it, and how much do I need?

Mine is, unfortunately, galvanized and kinked.

No, it appears to be a cast aluminum cap with gripping surface around the perimeter. It also has the remnants of a chain on it. Probably 1-1/2" pipe size. There are screw holes in the cabin sole on either side like something was fastened there at one time. That's what made me think it may be fo...

What is this through hull for?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but how else can you find out? On my 1976 C22, there is a through hull with a cap screwed over it on the cabin sole in front of the mast compression post a little towards the port side. There is no valve. Is this for a marine head? If so, did anyone's boat come with o...

Thanks for the information. I bought the boat from a gentleman in Anna, Ohio. He had owned a Chrysler 20 previously, and had just bought a Catalina 25. What is this thing?

Hi all: In looking at my new (to me) 1976 C22, I see the keel pivot assembly in the storage space under the dinette. It has all kinds of goop on it, and also on the other side under the rubber plug, so I have to assume it is probably leaking. But my question is: What is the 3/4" pipe flange, ni...

Hi all: I just purchased a 1976 Chrysler 22 and it is in my yard after hauling it 375 miles from mid Ohio to Knoxville, TN. I look forward to sailing it as soon as I can. This site is a wealth of information and I read many posts before purchasing the boat. This allowed me to know a little more abou...
