Yes,..that and some other features like profile updates no longer work after that database outage last year. I'm sure the site admin is aware but probably hasn't had time to fix it. Here's Scott's post from Mon Jun 26, 2017 11:23 am: "Yes, right now everyone will have issues. We have an issue w...

I tend to agree. I think of it like this...imagine the boat in mid air, now lower the keel 60 degrees, not heel the boat over 20 degrees. Has gravity had an effect on it,..you betcha! I'm guessing Chrysler had that in mind when adding it to the later models. Again, to be the most effective you need ...

Chris, Here's a link to a post showing the original keel stabilizer with plastic rod inserted. Plastic is either Nylon or UHMW PE or some other high density material. Best bang for the buck is UHMW PE, super strong and cheap. http://chryslersailors.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=4852 Most people on ...

Re: Salon table

Well, I am wrapping up almost 7 years of re-building my TMI 22' and am almost ready to sell her. Over this last winter I made a nice replacement table in the salon and that was going to be the end of the table project. Until this spring when I really committed to selling. I recently decided to fit ...

Rudder Upgrade Part 2

Finally got my new rudder installed and posting pics. I cut this blade from a piece of 1.5" x 2' x 4' UHMWPE plastic using ordinary shop tools....belt sander, angle grinder, planer, etc. I'd like to think it conforms to the NACA 0012 airfoil specs, but there might be some slight variations. Se...

Thanks for the tip on Gut-Rot, I may use that. I did some more poking around and found that the rot is fairly extensive. The top portion of the plywood seems solid, but it's rotted, and in some spots still damp (!), down toward the bottom of the compartment and to the "half moon" around t...

not at all an expert on the C22 keel, but there are more forces while under sail than just "supporting" the weight of the keel. Guess I'm overcautious, but in my experience of doing 30 years of hardware design I'd think the entire hull including the trunk act as a single "monohull&qu...

I'm sure it can be rebuilt, but the question is how to do it and how long would it take; or how much would it cost to have a shop do it. I guess I'm glad I saw that, I was hoping to get it in the marina next week. An even scarier thought is that even though I didn't see it, or it wasn't visible las...

New Lewmar Portlights

Got my new Lewmar Portlights installed. Little pricey, but well worth the money. Very sturdy, all aluminum contstruction, and they open ! :) Large enough so that I only had to enlarge the existing cutouts. These are the 4R and 4L models. The early C22s only had the oval portlights, but on the 1980 (...

Thanks for posting

How does an outboard charge a battery? I wonder if mine could. It's an 80's 6hp Evinrude. James James, Some older outboards have an alternator that supplies some DC voltage which you can route back into your battery for charging. Much the same way a car alternator works. If your's doesn't have an a...

I 'strap launch' my C22. I have a steel extender and tried using it a few times but it's not worth the hassle. I figured if you're separating the vehicle and the trailer anyway to add the extension, just connect a heavy duty 30' nylon strap. The boat will float off way before the vehicle even gets w...

My C22 has the same flex in that area, both sides. I would assume it's the design. At that area, boat doesn't need a lot of fiberglass structure.

The clutch mechanism can be slowly released. It's not like it completely disengages. If it did I would agree with you, that would cause the keel to drop with a very sudden bang. If that ever did happen though, the cable length will only allow a drop to the 60-70 degree position. It wouldn't bang int...

Anyone interested in converting to electric winch, here's a pic of how I did it. The winch is the DUTTON-LAINSON StrongArm SA5000DC. Easily pulls keel up fast with no problem. Has a clutch mechanism for free wheeling which comes in handy for lowering the keel without power, and for raising it manual...

For the C22's that have it (very late 70s, and 1980 model), it's nothing more than common plumbing parts available at your local hardware store. Galvanized steel pipe flange, nipple, and end cap, with a Nylon rod inserted. If your leak is at where the flange mounts to the trunk wall, then it's a wor...
