Found this on Craig's List. Some of you restoring a Buc might want the pictures. This one looks to be in great shape.

My young engineering friend has an answer. The greatest force downward on the pole is when the pole is vertical and the mast is just being picked up from the horizontal postion. I have the equation, though I doubt anyone cares so I won't reproduce it here. The answer, however is that 144 pounds of d...

Thanks, I've been using the boom but am adding lazy jacks. This places multiple lines on the boom making a gin pole much easier to manage when getting the mast up. As for bending moment, there should be little lateral pressure because the line from the gin pole forward equals in tension the line fro...

Gin Pole
OK you engineering types, here's the problem: You have a pole about 26' long weighing 80 pounds. One end is the fulcrum point. The gin pole is located at the fulcrum point and is 8' long. A line will be attached from the top of the pole to the gin pole and from there to a winch to erect the pole. Wh...

Greetings John I see you posted during the mid watch (0330??). That's either a fertile mind or the engineer in you is excited to work this out  I suggest you run your charger to your main battery. You can draw from there safely for all your items. Others who actually know that about which they...

Greetings Darren! I got my boat with only a bill of sale - from another bill of sale - where the guy bought it from a storage company when it was abandoned. The trailer had no title and the vin number had been removed. Registering the boat in Colorado was easy - just took them the bill of sale. Regi...

I'm re-doing mine - the boat came without them. Foam is very expensive but I went to a wrecking yard and found several motorhomes and campers. Carried out the first 4 cushions for $10.00. Returned yesterday and got 6 more for $15.00. Also got a swim ladder of a discarded boat for $8.00. It was a smi...

Cushion Bonanza!
My boat came with no cushions and I've been dragging my feet because of the price of the foam. Thought of using mattress toppers but almost all of them are made of memory foam now and I'm sure that holds water well! Took a stab today and went to the junkyard. They have a section of motorhomes & ...

My initial idea would be to try the hardware stud that is a screw on the bottom and bolt thread on top. use one of these in 3 holes, leaving holes between each one. the nut with a flat washer can be used to pull the seam back together and then install the correct screws in the empty holes between th...

I haven't tried this. I put mine in while the boat was on its trailer. My guess is that this might prove hard to do simply because the center of weight is not under the rudder post, but aft of that. From a messanger line this would make the assembly so it hangs in a manner that the post would not be...

Greetings Jay! Like what I see so far. What I really like are pictures of specifics, such as, I like to see how people have rigged - for instance, your picture of how your downhaul is placed below the boom vang. Love to see what kind of rope clutch you are using there. Love to see where people are p...

Rigging the jib
Those of us with bow pulpits deal with the foot of the jib riding over the pulpit, making a less-than-smooth sail, and has to effect the pocket in some form. Noticing the picture on our home page, for instance, there is ample area above the jib to continue to haul it up. When erecting the mast there...
