The C22 is designed for the keel to drop only enough to achieve 60 degrees. You should NOT run with the cable slack and keel all the way down.

thanks,..that's kinda what I thought...didn't really look factory. I like the idea of it though. I'll probably epoxy a small rubber bump stop aft of the cable riser.

Thanks, . Bob

Swing Keel cushion on hull underside

I'm ready to install my restored keel and remember there was something glued to the underside to cushion the keel against the underside when fully raised. Can anyone refresh my memory and/or let me know what you're using?

Thanks,....Bob

Sounds like the tongue weight is too low. A general rule of thumb is that the tongue weight should be appx 10% of the total trailer weight. Moving the boat forward is definitely a step in the right direction. With my C22 I aim for around 300 lbs at the tongue

As EmergencyExit says, appears to be missing an inner spacer. I wouldn't put much tension on those now, and even would say don't sail as is. You should remove both spreaders. From the one good side you may be able to insert a steel drift pin or something similarly hard and bang out the dent on the b...

Harken 22mm track and car

I like your setup. Like you, I wanted to get rid of the flimsy original track and pin traveler on my C22, but wanted to keep it simple. It doesn't need to move around all that much. I picked up the Harken 22mm track and pin car and really happy with it. The track has some flex to it so it'll adapt t...

Halyard organizer

This is a generic setup for running halyards aft. This is not my boat, but I have a similar setup using Harken swivel blocks and Spinlock organizer with Spinlock rope clutches. I'll try to post an image of mine soon.

Keel design

dumb question : is the keel one solid piece of forged steel? Doesn't look like cast iron. How did it get so pitted? thanks The C22 keel is referred to as a 'shell casting'. Wanting a non anti-fouling bottom paint and considering this product. The Interlux VC Performance has been mentioned here and looks great, but only comes in white. That doesn't sound right for coal tar epoxy. It does have some stretch (elongation as the manufacturer calls it) which makes it superior to other epoxies for durability. Rustoleum strongly recommends, per their application page, that when applying two coats, each coat (thinned with Xylene) and appli...

There are lots of yacht clubs probably in your area that offer classroom and hands-on training. It's a great way to learn with other novices, so no peer pressure. Just wondering what others have done about the pin sleeve when restoring the keel. Have you had any luck driving it out, or is drilling the best approach. Yes, yet another keel pin, bracket, engineering topic. I've got my keel out, doing the usual stuff on that.
