having some electrical knowledge I'd guess that the factory equipment was a single fuse from the battery to the entire single circuit of just lights. Not sure it's original (but it kinda looks like that era) on my boat is a single 2 position pull switch. Pull pout to 1st position and the anchor ligh...

2nd year on my C22. This year I brought the halyards to the cockpit and have clutches. GREAT improvement, but not cheap. I sail Green Bay and we get some big winds. I seldom use the 110 genoa. Best foresail is a jib I got on ebay that's about 80%. I reef my main most of the time.

yes, definately sounds like insufficient tongue weight. If you cant move the boat forward move the axles back. Small increments of 1 inch at time.

that's not original. Looks like some shimming for a repair/mod. I'd seal it with 3M 4200.

not an expert on sailing, but I do know engineering and most catastrophic mechanical failure comes from trying to make things too rigid. The wingtips on a 787 flex up 15ft during flight. My shrouds appear tight when sitting in the slip with no wind or sail, but I get slack on the leeward side when s...

totally agree with Bill about stepping mast while floating. My C22 is slipped and any human movement inside boat while at slip moves the mast 1-2 ft side to side. It would be extremely dangerous. I'd opt for breaking the rule.

my C22 has no adjuster and the original brochures show none. I'd guess you don't have the original mast or don't have the original stays so they're the wrong length. I'd find someone to make shorter cables for below the "Y" point.

the key is that the intersection point for the two cables/ropes coming from the toe rail (or other solid point) intersect at points directly out from (same height and centered on the pivot point at the mast step/hook. My previous owner made a steel U-channel (same width as boat) with wood/carpet pad...

maybe a 1 ft hardwood 2x4 with a slit the same size as the cable cut into the length of one of the 2" side about a inch deep using a table saw. Have a strong buddy push down while you tighten and reconnect. Might work. I'd like to tighten mine and this was my thinking but haven't tried it.

I'd think the cable may not work as once the boat-trailer gets far enough into the water that the boat begins to float the "rolling" will stop. Last fall I evidenced this 1st hand when the coupler on my hitch broke during pull out near the top of the ramp. It rolled backward hard/fast enou...

I'm really interested in this as a 1 year owner of a C22. I believe from my internet research (always true ;) ) that the position should be at angles determined by size/shape of the jib/genoas that are "90 degrees to angle from luff"??

nearly every boat trailer I ever see here is surge brakes. Same in Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota. Can't recall ever seeing electric brakes on a boat trailer in the past 25 years.

IMO - electric brakes are no longer used on boat trailers for good reasons. My truck also has electric brake controller for pulling trailers like campers that work well with electric. Hydraulic surge brakes should be a very easy retrofit and would provide much better long term reliability which tran...

I was just a Cana Lighthouse north of Baileys Harbor Wi this afternoon with grandkids. Warm 60 degree air and no ice in sight. I suspect any launch on Lake Michigan is open unless it's too far up a channel or river. Problem will be that the docks are probably not in.

My 22 is a swing keel, but IMO if I had a fixed keel and kept it in a slip I'd remove the sealant, dry into the seam with a heat gun and reseal with 5300. If it's trailered I'd leave it unsealed so it drains and drys between use. The red (rust?) stain may/may not indicate any problem.

C22 halyard rigging

The halyards on my C22 are very/too simple. The halyards are just terminated on cleats at the bottom of the mast. This can be tricky when solo sailing in decent winds. I'd like to run the lines though halyard turning lift blocks at the bottom of the mast, out to another block and then back to the wi...
