Most gavanized trailers still have painted axles and other parts. Washing down the trailer after use in salt water is the best thing you can do along with keeping up the paint. I have used ramps that had fresh water availble for wash downs. The nearest car wash will work. My father inlaw used to alw...

If you can't see blisters through the bottom paint I doubt that you have any problems. For the blistered bottoms I have done I use really course paper, 36 or even 24 grit on a DA sander. For really thick bottom paint 60 grit is probably OK. If you want to explore a few spots try the 80 grit. I have ...

launching without an extension
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... GQZUDFXtrs#!
I ran across this video. A good example of launching without a rigid extension. I find a stout rope or towing strap to be much quicker and easier on the back than a length of 3x3 steel.

Chrysler 26 motor mount
I got a chance this weekend to mount a 1987 Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke on the Chrysler motor mount. I noticed When I tried to tilt the motor the top hit the top of the motor mount hole. This suprised me I thought the sides would be the problem. I have seen several rebuilds on this sight where the mount was...

On the shallowest ramp at our club we need the full 25ft. You either need to back the empty trailer fast enough or when the wheels hit the mud at the end of the ramp it will bog down. Sometimes we tie a line to the back of the trailer and let someone give it an exta pull to keep it going straight. W...

The previous owner of my C26 had 140 lbs of iron bars in the port locker beside the drawers. I have assumed that was to help off set the list to port. I have taken the fomica off the galley, used lighter material on the top and I am stripping the formica off the head to ligthen things up. I also pla...

I would suggest you check with the folks at Humminbird also. I have found them very helpful and they used to have a transducer trade in policy that allows you to send back the trasducer that came with the unit and get the best match for the boat. I used and angled puck tranducer epoxied in place on ...

I used a masthead light on the my Ensign just like the one that came with the Chrysler. Three years ago I used a festoon type LED replacement bulb from Sunbrite LED's.com. There are 9 yellow high performance (in Sunbrite terms) LEDs on the bulb. It works great. I is difficult to tell if there is any...

Oriental, Beaufort, and Cape Lookout are all great destinations. most people travel from Oriental to Beaufort and Cape Lookout via the Intra Coastal Waterway. It is narrow making it difficult to sail. It should be an easy motor trip down if you have a good outboard. There is a small ancoracge and a ...

The topping lift is usaually slack while you are sailing, so it may not raise the boom while you are sailing. The topping lift will need to be slack when the wind is up and you want to flatten out the main sail. In very ligth air it can be helpful to tighten up the topping lift to help get some shap...

Sorry no pictures yet. Only the cushions are finnished. The inerior is gutted and half way sanded. The galley is in garage holding up an increasing pile of stuff. I will probably not be back down in the boat till after xmas from the looks of things. But I know I don't need the old cushions now. Hope...

Chrysler 26 cushions
I have completed my interior cushions. Now it is time to pass the old ones along. The foam is in good shape. Most of the covers are the original course brown and yellow plaid fabric. I think two have broken zippers. There are two or three of the cushions that the original owner had covered in a nice...

Look for rotten plywood. In the cockpit floor and sides, cabin sole, under the carpet on the swing keel trunk. You should be especially concerned if there is standing water. Check the bilge area under the rear berth to see if there is water up to the cabin sole. Soft spots on the deck are a major pr...

Also try Outdura. It is the same stuff made by Shuford Mills just north of Hickory, NC. I was able to go in pick up the sample books and let my wife pick out what she wanted. It was half the price you could find on line and less than any remnant shops in the area. Plus you can pick out exactly what ...

Mario, The only thing close that I have been in was Hugo in 1989. It came through our place, roughly 240 miles inland, still gusting over 80 MHP. Down on Lake Norman it may have been a little higher. Hugo removed 100% of the boats in the water and docks from our club and deposited them in a pile on ...

I have cracks starting near the welds on Holiday also. I believe this is what is due to crevice corrosion. I have been looking for a good source for 2205 duplex (austenitic) stainless. This is the alloy that is typically used for underwater service to prevent crevice corrosion. I lost a mast to this...

Adam, I have not sailed my chrysler so take this for what it is worth. You can adjust the balance of the rig and weather helm by raking the mast slightly more forward or raising the keel (which will more it back slightly). Hope this helps. Of course a longer tiller might make it easier. Did you try ...
