I have not opened that particular area but I have opened it up forward of the mast and at the table pedestal and there was no foam in the space between the liner and hull in these areas.

Yes, but the ones in the middle are just for gathering up the loose sail and are not designed to hold a load. You run a line through and tie it loosely around the boom just tight enough to keep all that extra sail out of the way and protected.

You can see those if you look closely at my avatar.

Original had one reef point, mine measures 49 1/2" from foot of sail. Since I tend to adjust for wind conditions more by changing the head sail this works for me. PS It was probably 48" originally, I measured at the leech so I was guessing a bit and the sail is very old quite likely the or...

Well it worked, the motor now idles low and is easy to put in gear and won't stall in gear if left at idle.......at least in the tank.

Tohatsu idle revisit...........

I tried this and mine still does not idle correctly but I finally found a forum post where a outboard mechanic recommended drilling out a welsh plug. I was apprehensive to say the least but after some more research I found out this welsh plug covers an air mixture adjustment screw that the US govern...

#1 Assuming you have stolen the telltales off my jib, shame on you, I let it out until it just starts to luff then back in just enough to stop the flutter.

#2 Your jib lead is to far back

For me stainless, but with aluminum laying around it may be worth a try. I would worry about bending it and it cracking with the sharp angle of the corner.

Aside from the fastening issue the only thing I see wrong is the radius of the corner at the bottom of the top plate. It needs to be the same as the distance from the center of the pivot pin hole to the edge of the plate to prevent it from binding as the mast stands up. The pivot pin hole might also...

Kind of looks like a demasting perhaps lost shrouds or maybe while stepping the mast a bridle broke and it swung off to the side to far. I would rough it up and rap it in a few layers of glass. Good thing is, the loads when sailing are vertical.

Yeah those brackets look real familiar, time to replace them. As to the "snubber" I removed mine and have not looked back (it was non functional due to deterioration of the fitting).

I have mine in a wood pocket underneath the port seat just in front the keel cable thru hull. You have to remove one end of the pocket which is held on with wing nuts to get it out. Being my first non dingy sailboat I have learned that if it can turn over or come loose it will at some point, lock it...

Very hard to reach........and I have long fairly skinny arms. Find a plug for a hole big enough to work through and then drill a hole on the inside in the appropriate place and do the repair. With out a lot of testing between two equal boats in the same conditions it is hard to say but my guess would be in light air try to keep it even and in heavy air you want more weight forward when going upwind and more weight rearward going downwind. With an outboard hanging off the back you are pro...

there is no bilge but there is a small gap between the inner and outer hulls than can hold water, I think the holes you speak of are to allow water a way out of this gap.

Knock on wood........I for some strange reason have not had much of a issue with wasps, odd considering where I live. I do keep it closed up and covered but not tight enough to keep them out. When I clean the inside I use a bleach based cleaner, perhaps the residue keeps them away.

I'll second that, my 6 hp has power to spare so as long as you are not having to fight heavy currents or tides, winds you should be fine.

Hard to tell but it looks like most of the gel coat was removed, considering how much looks gone I would use a waterproofing paint underneath what ever you top coat it with to protect the glass from water intrusion.

Sailing returns to the south (for me anyways)

Finally the temps have dropped into the low 80's and the wind has returned. Beautiful day for sailing yesterday with 15 knots of wind that was pretty steady and an overcast sky to keep the temps down. A perfect day except for the very end when I cranked up the motor and found the main halyard which ...

I am assuming this is the pin used to fix the boom to the mast as a gyn pole. It is just a rod that fits into the hole snugly. You can buy a machine bolt the right size about 5 or 6 inches long. Just cut the head off.

By a round or square watertight inspection port and install near transom to do the repair work and then use the space for storage. They make small storage bags to go with some of the round inspection ports that will keep stored items from sliding around. I added 2 on my sunfish to do repairs and for...

Make note of the "swell" part as in don't use in a space where it has little room to expand, short of separating things meant to be attached to one another.

My Sunfish uses rigid foam through out usually glued into place with something similar to foam-o seal you use to seal windows.
