Mario,

Have you tried the Hardwood Store in Gibsonville? Good folks. I got some teak and holly plywood from them really cheap. They had gotten an incorrect shippment and were just getting rid of it. I also found boat building grades of plywood for my reinforcements on the 26.

Mario,

I found similar water damage when I removed the galley in the 26 and removed the formica. I ended up gluing the delaminated plywood with epoxy, sanding and filling the low spots. It look pretty good with just primer. I plan to do the same to the bulkheads and just paint them white.

I sail my Pearson Ensign on Lake Norman. The Chrysler only sails in the back yard so far. Not a bad place to sail the July and August winds can be hard to find. Sailing is year round with the best sailing in Spring. I have never sailed the Cape Fear inlet but it may be worth checking out. I hear the...

The tack for the mainsail does not look that bad. If it is like my C26 the cunninham takes most of the vertical load. The horizontal load would be distributed along the luff of the sail. I would just sand out the pitting and check closely for any cracks. We got to keep these NC boats floating. Holiday

Clean Rusty Keel

The local powder coater here in NC quoted me $175 to sandblast prime and polyester powder coat once I have the keel out. When you look at the cost of materials thats a pretty good deal. Most areas have small shops doing this type of work.

I have stripped the liner out of the aft birth, then sanded with 120 grit to remove the glue. I was thinking about buttering up the inner hull sides with body filler then sanding smooth before painting.

Has anyone tried using filler on such a large area.

Most of what I have read says non woven roving has the most stregnth, then the woven roving, then cloth, with mat having little strength by comparison. Under stress the crossing points in the yarns are high stress areas. Mat is not usually used with epoxy. Typically the binder in the mat is designed...

I drove down to Cinton and looked at this trailer saturday. It is set up for a Chrysler 26 and has 4 wheel disk brakes. The extension is longer than the Road King standard and is painted instead of galvanized. I checked with Road King a year ago and this was quoted to me at $4200 without the extensi...

How about a trade? I am considering a non retractable rudder. The main problem I see with the standard retractable rudder is that it can hit the outboard prop.

Have you seen any problems with your rudder design?

I used a Humminbird in my Ensign. If the 22 is like my Chrysler 26 there is no coring in the hull. Heavy fouling will afect the sonar though. In the Ensign the first thing I did was call Humminbird. They have great customer service, actual peole on the phone and they knew the product. They have a pr...

Be sure to use red LEDS for red lights, green for green etc. they have worked great and really save the bat...

Rudder Bearing

I have read about a method to make your own rudder bearings from one of the Gudgeon Brothers manuals. The bearings are formed by using proper mold release on the rudder shaft, then centering it in the rudder tube. Graphite filled epoxy is then injected in holes driled around the top and bottom of th...

Is your shoal draft rudder as deep as the keel when the keel is up? If not can you estimate how much shorter the rudder might be? I have been thinking about a rudder the same depth as the raised keel. This would be build with a weaker bottom section to prevent hull damage by the rudder shaft if grou...
