I've been replacing mine a bit at a time, starting with the headstay. Last I did were the aft lowers, which I ordered with aircraft fork swaged on the top and then cut to length and installed a Hayn HiMod fitting at the bottom. I also replaced the split bridle portion of the backstay. Next on the li...

Just a quick bump to keep everyone's attention. Memorial Day weekend is usually the first big one at Watauga, so don't wait until the last minute to make your arrangements. Watauga Lake Sailing Club typically has a dock feast / potluck on the Saturday or Sunday. Everyone brings something to share, m...

If one doesn't turn up, you could have one fabbed up from aluminum or stainless pretty easily. Should be a pretty simple build.

Windward's is fitted under the head area. I cut a chunk of PVC pipe at an angle that matched the hull, leaving the top basically level. After washing, sanding and cleaning the surface, I hot glued the pipe in place, with an extra fillet of duct tape around the exterior joint. I mixed up some quick-s...

@Scott, sounds like a great time. Thanks for sharing.

@Jeff, I ended up making mojitos instead, but a very pleasant evening followed by a great sail the next day, plus my "good samaritan" securing an adrift sailboat and contacting the owner.

That motor mount ought to do it! I went to a lot of trouble to rebuild mine. It looked great and was super solid, but I had to do a quick and dirty mod to accommodate my new 4 stroke a couple of days before going to the coast. Three and a half years later, the ugly mod is still going strong. The bea...

The OEM location, near the top of the mast, meant the furled genoa could block the light from some angles and that the deck light was a long ways fro the deck. I put Windward's steaming / deck light just above the spreaders. Just converted the steaming light to LED, but still using the halogen deck ...

I was returning from dropping a buddy off for a backpacking trip and saw an unfamiliar C26 motoring out past the buoy line. Dashed down, fired up Windward's auxiliary and set course for intercept. http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m529/sv-Windward/JMcKamey%20-%20Maiden%20Voyage/2011-02-19_13-08-03...

Not much to offer, except that you'd want to be sure your coupler and the various frame components themselves are up to the load. One of the best features of the trailer I borrow is a set of pivoting, rotating dolly wheels on the tongue. It pivots up for towing, but pivots down and locks for launch ...

Jeff, you did it from the outside, yes? Any problems getting the vinyl strip back into the rub rail track? NYC, I did not measure my pedestal location prior to removing it. I'll see if I have any pics worth posting; may have some of the quadrant and pulleys, too. You could laminate several layers of foam to get the size/shape you need. While you're doing major reconstruction, how about moving the galley to starboard and enlarging it a bit, building a large, well-sealed cockpit locker in the space behind the new galley location, then making the port settee in...

On later (1979-1980) models, there was a small anchor locker in the bow. In the 1977-1978 bullet-nosed models, there was no OEM arrangement. The focus was more on "how many berths can we put in this thing?" which also accounts for the lack of a meaningful cockpit locker. On Windward I keep...

Much longer reach to the throttle/shifter on the C26 than the C22 (aaargh indeed!), but yes, royal PITA to remove the engine once the remote and battery cables are connected.
