Nice perspective view. I get tired of shooting the same angles. Nice country over there. I haven't been on the Forum that long so it's great to put a face and a setting to the posts.

Better than epoxy???? hmmm... Well, the Tite-Bond is a good glue for sure, but I'd still add screws. Dowels are a nice touch as well, but I prefer those for plugging screwhead holes that I don't want to show. Bronze, left open might be a lovely accent. I doubt you will have much of a problem with th...

Beautiful work. I noticed that you used Tite-Bond. Did you pin the rungs into the rails as well? You might consider some bronze countersink head screws to keep things from working apart. Tite-Bond is good, but sometimes not good enough and the bronze screws would not detract from the good looks. The...

For teak, use Cetol. There might be another treatment, but varnishes and urethanes will lift and cloud, as you found out, because teak exudes teak oil on its own. That is why it is used on boats. Cetol seems to be compatable. It doesn't buff up all shiny, but remains a bit dull, on the satin side. B...

Day II ~ Summer Sailstice... Crewman Jeff joined me for the day. He'll sail anything I buy, he tells me. Hmmm... maybe that explains why he has the degree. Anyway, overnight mooring saw no leaks around the rotten keelhead trunk and we took Chance out at about 11am on an almost calm sea. Again, the m...

Maybe it's because there is only minmal gear and no passengers aboard. Since I didn't know iof it was going to leak, I changed my plans and left all non-essential stuff at home and basically just took a lunch and a small tool kit. Plans for Jeff to stay aboard were cancelled and he'll come down toda...

C-20 First Launch - After Action Report
It's a keeper. No leaks. Motor runs good and the boat seems stiff and stable - even though the winds were only in the 10mph range. I can tell why it was advertised as a family friendly boat. There was a two ft chop despite the mild wind because of the long, open fetch coming down the slot. The boat ...

Capt Scott: Fine. ....that's just fine, then. You just go on and waste your time with Diane. Fine.... Chrysler20%26: Well, you get two choices in these: Gold hull or White. Someone painted the bottom with black antifouling paint that looks and feels likew Rhino-Liner. Gotta be a speed killer, and i...

C-20 First Launch Attempt
Tomorrow (friday) I have the day off, and will be attempting a first launch of my C-20. Raising the mast is a no-fuss procedure, so the real test will come at the ramp itself. I have a 5ft stinger I made to use as an extension, but the boat sits pretty high on a roller trailer, so getting enough wat...

No cushions for this boat until I need 'em. A tough vinyl covering or some indoor-outdoor carpet. Cushions on the cockpit seating only - if any. I have a ton-o-camping gear, with lots of duplications. The boat will be fully kitted out with stove, cat heater, mattress, etc. But nothing happens until ...

Windnutlarry Missing cushions and rotted soles go hand in hand. People toss them when they get funky and see the cost of replacements. I've seen GitRot, but this job is too big for that - and potentially too important. Major surgery is the only option. But like I said, it has to be a good boat othe...

Chrysler20%26 It's no small area, actually. The only proper way to fix this is to radically go in there and rip it all out - to the glass outer lay-up. If the boat is as good as everyone says it is, it'll probably be mine for a long time, due to its otherwise decent condition. This one was left una...

I'm trying to minimize the fuss at the ramp, so no additional contraptury will be allowed. Once I hooked up the mainsheet tackle, it was nothing. I'm tellin ya, the rig is stout (well... you already know that). I haven't actually gone around and compared mast thickness with other 20 footers, but I d...

C-20 Mast Raising
So much for my theory on mechanical advantage on the C-20. That puppy be heavy! About popped a gourd trying to use a single pulley attached to the stemhead fitting to help get it started. No way, and my shoulder will never be the same for at least two days. So, I did it the same way as on my C-22: H...

EE , I can envision all kinds of sideways problems with fabricating a new bracket. Just think how bad things might go if that new hole is mis-located even a few millimeters. I would really have to trust a shop alot with that one, I can tell you. I may clean mine up and get a good look at it over th...

Looks like a Grunt Factor of 10 to me. But, an excuse to go buy one of those nifty Roto-Zips with some cutting wheels... a bucket of 'em. I have a compressor, so an air chisel comes to mind as well. I'm pretty sure the side panels will come off with little fuss once the resin/glass along the edges i...

Here are some pics of the worst of it. Other than this, the boat is pretty solid. I wonder if I should drill some exploratory holes in the upright panels to check for wet foam??? Do I really want to do that? http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l596/OutnBacker/Chrysler%2020%20Sailboat/Three_zps68d006...

I'll get some pics of the area in question and we'll all learn alot more about the apperantly somewhat rare C-20. As to how happy I'll be about it, let's just say for now that ignorance is bliss. I'm happy to have secured one, but I have yet to sail it. I would go out today, but the weather looks ve...

I also liked the 22 deck drains. Plus a small cockpit that cant swamp the ship. Having just gotten the 20, I hope to dig in after this season and go through the boat with some detail. Not a resto, but a good critical refit where needed. Since I opened this thread, I've sort of pictured a little bett...

C-20 is Here...or, Let's Begin Another Project
I got the C-20 home on a shaky trailer that didn't like going over 55mph. But, it'll do for a few short trips to the ramp before I dig into it. At least it has Bearing Buddies. The boat is rough, but not quite as rough as the C-22 I just sold. However, it has signifigant rot of the plywood panels re...

Here again, unless I am reading it wrong, there is this discrepency. This PDF from the factory site seems to say that the shoal keel is 400lbs and the swing keel is 410lbs. Does this mean all together 810Lbs? The wording can be misunderstood. Are they talking about the same boat or some optional kee...
