I have drilled out (oversize to expose fresh material) the existing holes and filled them with epoxy.(two out of the existing four can be reused) All of the holes were oversized and the wood "dug out" between the fiberglass, see link below. http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/sealing_the_de...

New rigging

Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered all new standing rigging, it started with just some (there was some unwinding and failure) and then from talking to a few people I guessed that it would be a good investment to replace 35 year old rigging... I eventually went with Seco South, very friendly a...

Luckily I have not had to do this yet. Just a thought...is there any reason not to pre drill the holes and then fill the fiberglass and drill the fiberglass? I like the idea of drilling one, bolting in the bracket and then marking the rest. Using a drill press may help....

I was looking at this also, the PO used a very thick piece of plastic here, although its in good condition it grows green stuff in between the layers. My plan is to replace this with LDPE Film Tape. I will stick one layer to the hatch itself and one layer to the boat...will post pics asap.

I have decided to ditch my 7/8" bases and change to 1" bases, I found stainless steel stanchions on ebay for 6 bucks a piece. this is way less than new tubing and then add in a top and you have north of 40 bucks per stanchion!

The rub rail is only to protect the fiberglass edge, most likely the two halves are caulked and screwed together.

Looks like the plate was placed because the original fitting failed. You van remove the rub rail rivets by drilling them out. Start with a small diameter and work up till you find the correct one. There is probably more than one way to fix this it just depends on how much work you want to put into t...

What online metal shop did you use, Mariner?
a little bit of sanding the cut edges, filing the corners and some "brasso" does wonders!

I used:
www.speedymetals.com

they were fast and the prices are great.

New shroud brackets

As part of the re-bedding project I discovered that the starboard shroud connection bracket holes drilled through the deck were huge and double drilled! These were filled with epoxy after the holes were "cleaned" and then re-drilled. http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad276/marinerc22/e797...
