I finally uploaded some pictures to Webshots. Its been very hectic trying to catch back up at work since I returned from vacation. Here is a shot of the galley in place. The pump will fold down into the galley so that it can be slid back under the radios and into the cockpit locker. I am going to ha...

Outer Banks-We are here!

Arrived in Oriental Sat. Launched Sunday and encountered 3 foot waves on the Neuse. High tailed it to Adams Creek and sailed in protected waters to Beaufort. 22 miles with no tacking! A first for me. Staying at the Beaufort docks. Very nice. I have at least three million dollar boats within a few fe...

I would surely like to have a remote set up. My boat had one at one time, you can see where a PO fiberglassed over the holes for the controls.

But I have found the ability to hang over the stern and steer just the outboard can really allow intricate manuevering that the rudder won't do.

My boat came with a 9.9 four stroke Honda with electric start and 10 amp charging. It will push it 5.4 mph at about one third throttle. I love it. But it is heavy. I first took it off the transom to trailer the boat so as not to strain the transom, but now put a ratchet strap around the motor and up...

I have launched twice and retrieved once so far in the past two years. Each time I had the trailer tongue extender maxed out and my Ford F350 in the water past the back wheels. Sometimes to the front wheels depending on the depth of water. I have the original Chrysler brand trailer that came with th...

Thank you for all the compliments. I will test it out on Pamlico Sound in about a month if nothing goes awry. I will let you know what worked and what didn't.

I finally started building my galley...

I started building my galley the other day. I am about 6 hours into it using some mahogany type wood I have had for several years. I made four sets of frames utilizing a Kreg jig and screws, then routed recesses for the panels in all openings but one. This opening will receive two drawers. The top i...

Steaming/deck light poll

Gentlemen: My steaming light/deck light combination was installed by the PO within a foot of the top of the mast. I do not have it wired in yet, but I would say that the deck light is not going to light up too much that high in the air. Where does everyone have theirs located? Somewhere near the spr...

I just didn't like the oak with the existing mahogany. It looked kind of cheesy in the particular application. The PPO used a sheet of Formica on the back of the book rack and the PO used the tambour board to cover it. I removed the oak and contact cemented a tan vinyl to the Formica. The outer hull...

That oak finish pole wrap was put in by the PO. If you look at the later pictures, you can see that I removed it. The PPO (previous, previous owner) built a book rack and sawed/butchered the fiberglass liner to install it. I removed the oak tambour board (pole wrap) that the PO installed and refinish...

Fellow enthusiasts: I am planning to visit my bro-in-law Mike in Manteo the second week of Oct. I will be hauling the C22 with me in hopes of sailing possibly down to Ocracoke and back. Mike says that is a good time to come out. I could use any advice you may have to offer. Other than a short trip o...

Thanks for all the kind words. I really enjoy working on the boat, just hard to find the time. Right now, it is at the dock, making working on it that much harder.

That is mahogany, or actually, one of the various species of tropical woods called mahogany. I doubt if it is true mahogany.

New bronze through hull and washdown pump

For those of you who may be interested in replacing their old plastic galley through hulls, here is what I did. The old one was a sinking waiting to happen.

New interior cabinetry on the C22

I have pretty much finished the cabinetry on the starboard side. Will probably wait until winter to start on the port side.

Please see my webshots album below. You can see that I carefully machined a nylon bushing to go inside the bronze through hull for the rudder. After all that, I ended up just using the original plastic one. It worked for 36 years, and it had a little flex to it. I just wasn't comfortable trying to o...

I know whenever I put my boat in the water (including two months ago) a puddle of water comes up in the keel pin area, even though my keel pin does not leak. I do have some minor window leaks. It is my belief that any water that gets in between the inner liner and the hull travels to the low spot. O...

Drop the rudder out the bottom while the boat is in 3 or 4 feet of water. I've done it twice and once on purpose! Change your lines and then tape a 3 foot stick to them. Slide this up the rudder through Hull from under neath while a helper in the boat grabs it and pulls it up retrieving the lines. W...

On my C22 with a 9.9 four stroke Honda, my rudder clears the motor foot by 1 inch when the motor bracket is all the way down. One thing you have to be careful about is reversing with the rudder all the way up. If you get too far one way or another with the rudder, the force of the engine thrust will...

Sheeting Angles for the C22

Now here's a question. The PO removed the jib tracks from my C22 and filled in the holes, so I don't know where they went originally. I currently have jib sheet blocks on clips that allow me to move the block anywhere on the toe rail. However, it seems you would not be able to point to windward as w...

I think I misunderstood the question. You obviously have a bearing on top of the rudder cheeks. I did too, but it was a loose fitting nylon mushroom and slid right off. You may need to sand any buildup off the rudder stock and use some P Blaster to loosen it. I am sure some other folks have suggesti...

If your boat is like mine, the mushroom shaped bearing (you didn't say if it was the one in the cockpit or the one under the hull) is the top part of a pretty much standard nylon through hull. It is secured from inside the boat by a threaded nut. This is probably obscured from view on the top one un...
